Director of Development and Alumni Relations

The Development Office at Holy Child Academy is dedicated to advancing HCA’s mission guided by the School’s strategic priorities. The Director of Development and Alumni Relations engages constituents to invest in the Academy’s success and fosters lifelong relationships that result in philanthropic support.

Working as a member of the Academy’s administrative leadership team and reporting to the Head of School, the Director of Development and Alumni Relations is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising plan to achieve the Academy’s annual and long-range financial goals. The Director also is responsible for engaging and cultivating relationships with the Academy’s alumni.

The role requires a dynamic and results-oriented professional who possesses outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills, a self-directed and entrepreneurial spirit, mature judgment, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with trustees, parents, alumni, and faculty and staff colleagues. Excellent communication skills are essential for the position, as well as a passion for and appreciation of private, independent, faith-based schools.

Specific Responsibilities

Development

  • Preparing a development plan for the fiscal year that aligns with the strategic plan of the Academy
  • Promoting and growing the Annual Fund
    • Ensuring accurate recording of all gift data in database
    • Preparing all tax acknowledgements for Head of School’s signature
    • Managing all employee matching programs
    • Managing United Way donations
    • Preparing an annual report of gifts
  • Managing all constituent relations and cultivation activities
  • Growing financial aid resources through the Pennsylvania EITC/OSTC tax credit programs
    • Prepare all monitoring reports required by the Pennsylvania Office of Economic and Community Development
    • Apply for tax credits for donors as needed
    • Prepare all tax credit donor acknowledgments in compliance with Pennsylvania state regulations
  • Utilizing the Head of School’s time and talents appropriately with respect to cultivation, solicitation and stewardships efforts
  • Building engagement programs for constituencies including but not limited to:
    • Parents education and engagement program
    • Grandparents Council program
    • Planned Giving prospects
    • Alumni Parents activities
  • Preparing materials, including, but not limited to, the agenda, meeting minutes and development reports for the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees
  • Attending social events for key donor constituencies, including but not limited to, Board of Trustee dinners and meetings as needed
  • Drafting grant applications for any special or general funding needs of the Academy
  • Providing leadership of the planning and execution of the annual auction
  • Planning and executing all donor events
  • Managing Development Office database
  • Managing volunteers for various development projects
  • Preparing mailing lists for school mailings
  • Supervising the HCA Auction Coordinator
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Head of School

Alumni Relations

  • Planning and executing all alumni events
  • Soliciting and publishing alumni news through social media and newsletters
  • Moderating a meaningful alumni association induction for graduating students, educating them about the rewards and responsibilities of the HCA alumni association
  • Planning and executing career days with Academy alumni
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Head of School

Qualifications

  • An appreciation and passion for the mission of Holy Child Academy and a deep commitment to the value of private education
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of fundraising experience required with a preference for experience in private, Catholic education
  • Capacity to engage others and motivate them to act on a shared mission
  • Highly energetic and self-motivated professional with a track record of building donor relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment
  • Professional appearance and demeanor with the ability to interact in a positive manner with all the constituencies of the School community: The Head of School, the administration, staff, faculty, the Board of Trustees, alumni, parents, and friends of the school
  • High level of confidence and excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Excellent analytical, planning and organization skills
  • Ability to develop excellent rapport with donors and volunteers, and to interact with them on a professional and social basis with ease and comfort
  • Integrity, warmth, confidence, a positive outlook and a good sense of humor
  • Commitment to professional development and self-improvement
  • Results-oriented with attention to detail and ability to complete high-quality work and established goals on time
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel programs to manage data, prepare Board reports and make presentations
  • Proficiency with fundraising software programs such as Day School and the ability to manage social media
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally and regionally

The Institution

Holy Child Academy (HCA) is an independent, Catholic school for boys and girls of all faiths in Nursery through Grade 8. Founded in 1927, HCA strives to educate students diverse in race, culture, and religious beliefs. The goal is for each child to develop his or her God-given talents and abilities for the betterment of society. HCA is located in Drexel Hill and is part of a global network of Holy Child school founded by the Society of the Holy Child Jesus.
